Frank Lloyd Wright's Home

When Frank was still a toddler, his mother declared that he was destined to become a great builder, and covered the walls of his room with large pictures of cathedrals. As a child, he spent many hours on a hill in the vicinity of the family estate daydreaming about being a famous architect. This is exactly where he later built Taliesin, his residence for most of his life.

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) became indeed one of the most celebrated architects of the 20th century. He described his architecture as "organic", and designed his structures to work in harmony with their environment. Taliesin is a prime example of organic architecture.

The furnishings and lamps in the house were also designed by Wright.

Taliesin was twice destroyed by fires, and twice rebuilt by Wright. In it's latest incarnation, it was expanded to host a small number of young and upcoming architects, trained by Wright. Taliesin is nowadays open to visitors. It is located in the vicinity of Spring Greens, Wisconsin.
